Measuring guide
Measuring is one of the most important parts of your window treatment, get this wrong and however beautiful your curtains or blinds are made, they will not fit. When you bring your sizes into us, a diagram with all dimensions and obstructions is the best option.
Measuring for your new Curtains or Blinds is straightforward, just see the guides below. We recommend that you use a steel tape measure for accuracy.
Measuring guide for blinds
Decide the fitting position of the blind, within the recess [recess] or outside the recess [Blind size]. It is important to measure the height your blind is being installed at from the floor (installation height) to comply with child safety.
Measuring the Recess
Width – Measure the inside width of the window at the top middle and bottom. Use the narrowest width measurement.
Drop – Measure the height of the window at the left, centre and right. Use the longest height measurement.
We will make any deductions off the width of the blind to ensure the blind operates perfectly within the window recess.
Blind size
Width – To minimise light leakage it’s recommended that the blind overlaps the window recess by least 50mm each side.
Height – When measuring the height take into account the required space for the mounting bracket, a flat surface of a minimum 70mm is advisable.
The overlap at the bottom of the blind is a matter of personal choice but please take into account obstacles such as radiators.
Measuring guide for Curtains
Measure the total width of the track or pole (excluding the finials).
If there is no track or pole we advise measuring 15cm-25cm (6”-10”) past the window.
Measuring Length
Before measuring the length, decide whether you want your curtains to fall to the sill, below the sill or to the floor. We suggest that:
Sill length curtains finish 1.25cm (1/2 inch) above the sill.
Curtains that fall below the sill finish 15cm (6 inches) below, unless there is an obstacle such as a radiator.
Floor-length curtains finish 1.5cm (1/2 inch) from the floor (although you can create a romantic, Bohemian look by having them longer so that they actually trail on the floor)
If there is no track or pole we advise measuring 15cm (6”) above the window. If hanging on a track measure from the top of the track, if hanging on a pole measure from the hook on the bottom of the ring. *If eyelet, tab measure from the top of the pole.
